Level 6 Qualification in Arboriculture:

The Next Steps....

Our Objective: For our candidates to achieve a level 6 qualification which will improve their career ambitions in the world of arboriculture, may result in chartered status and ensures our candidates have the necessary knowledge to compete for work in the real world.

This qualification is a replacement for the RFS/ABC Level 6 Professional Diploma in Arboriculture and it remains the premier qualification in arboriculture. The qualification is still endorsed by the RFS and awarded by ABC Awards. The Qualification is an arboricultural managers qualification. Suitable for those wishing to work as tree officers or consultants. Often candidates will have taken the Level 3 Technician's Certificate in Arboriculture or the level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture before attempting this qualification, however depending on the experience of the candidate this is not always necessary, we would suggest you giving us a call so that we help you establish the right course for you.

Format of the Qualification:

The framework gives candidates the opportunity to achieve different grades such as Certificates and Diplomas in the different levels so for example at Level 6 candidates will be able to gain a Certificate and a Diploma at Level 6. Tree Life will encourage and support candidates to reach not only a Certificate at level 6 but also a Diploma at level 6, thus giving them the equivalent to the previous qualification the Professional Diploma, the premier qualification in Arboriculture.

• Certificate (12-36 credits)
• Diploma (37 credits or more)

The assessment for the majority of the qualification will be by internal assessment; therefore candidate's will be submitting work to Tree Life which will build up not only a knowledge resource for future work but also as a portfolio of evidence of completed work for your Certificate and Diploma. The portfolio will also be used in external moderation to ensure the standard of the training centre is maintained.

Our courses will take place on a fortnightly basis with times depending on the location. The course has been designed to take 2 years to complete up to the Level 6 Diploma Stage. Where possible we will work to an academic term time table.

• Westonbirt Arboretum in Tetbury, Gloucestershire
• Harlow, Essex

At Tree Life we have always looked to make training as flexible for the learner as possible. As we have done previously we will continue to see if we can accommodate groups formed by candidates in specific locations. If you believe you can form a viable group in your location please contact us.

Your Tutor:

At Tree Life we pride ourselves on our ability to provide first class training and therefore this means that we require the best tutors. For the Level 6 qualification David Dowson is our head of teaching and your main tutor. Tree Life occasionally use specialists for certain subjects but with David's wealth of experience you will be in good hands throughout the course. You will have direct links with your tutor and we encourage our candidates to join in to an email group so that they have support and experience from others on their course as well. Most of our group members continue to interact with each other long after our courses have finished!

In summary:

• Gain the Full Diploma with Tree Life in 2 Years or have support from us for a further 2 years if you don't quite manage it in the 2 years.
• Courses are part time and designed to fit around work.
• Internal assessment meaning no external examinations!
• These are professional Qualifications and therefore Tree Life prepares candidates not just for the gaining of the qualification but for the next job in hand.
• Candidates can look to gain a Certificate and a Diploma at the relevant level.
• Various venues with the possibility of forming your own group.
• A highly qualified Tutor who is also a well respected consultant in his own right.
• Up to 25 sessions a 2 year period. Starting in October each year
• Option to apply for the Tree Life Sponsorship program and gain £1500.00 towards your studies

Requirements:

It is ideal if a candidate has achieved a level 3 or 4 qualification in arboriculture before attempting this qualification. However each candidate should have discussed with Tree Life their past experience and current qualifications before applying to the course to ensure that they attend the right one.

Access to a computer with an internet connection and an email address is advisable for each candidate due to the receiving of materials and the completion of work for their portfolios.
